my gund bear

I decided to take a break from DT work today and do a layout for just fun. Scrapbook Challenges, has a "no people, no pet" challenge going on. ACOT has a journaling challenge dealing with a favorite gift. As I was laying in bed last night, thinking about everything, it occurred to me that I could combine the two challenges easily, with my gund bear. So I had a little photo shoot with him this afternoon and got to work.

Journaling is tucked away but reads, "I was very sick as a child and was in and out of hospitals for surgeries. On the way to the hospital for a surgery we stopped at Kaufmann's in Charleston. I saw this Gund bear and wanted him so bad. But dad said no and that was that. But when I woke up from surgery Dad had gone back and bought it for me. That was 30 some odd years ago and Gund is still will me. He isn't in the best condition, his nose is falling off, his fur is filthy, but he is mine and I love him." So here it is,

All items on here, minus the jewels, is from sassafrass lass.

As an aside too all of this I was thinking about how this gift was such a big deal to me that I can remember the details of the day after all this time. I am going to ask my dad about what he remembers (he is on a cruise ship sailing from Rio de Janerio in Brazil to the states at the moment.) I wonder what he remembers about it. Now that I am a parent, I could see not necessarily remembering it. I mean his young child was getting ready to be put under and operated on, his thoughts were probably elsewhere. But me, the kid, doesn't remember being scared or worried, just wanting that bear and then getting it.

Just Me

Well, as it says, these pictures are all just me. I have been trying to get a good head shot of myself. I finally figured out how to aim my little point and shoot camera. But I never actually take the time to fix myself up any more- I know, shame on me, it makes me feel so much better when I do. Anyway, after church on Sunday, when I still had my hair down, and make up on. I went and sat in the sun room and took a bunch of pictures. Some of them turned out quite nicely.
So, this page is for three challenges- Scrapbook Challenges has a grid challenge. And Practical Scrappers wants to use soemthing that is at least a year old (glimmer mist on the white cardstock is over a year). And ACOT has a glimmer mist challenge. So there you have it.

Black paper is Making Memories Floral Asphalt Patterned Pape. Mulberry paper is Bazzil. Flowers are prima. Rub ons are bo bunny. bling is say it with crystals and zva. ribbon, scalloped paper and pearls are unknown. white paper is sprayed with glimmer mist.

all creatures great and small

Here is a new layout I did this week. Not sure if I really like it, but . . . It is from a sketch from the scrappiest - Bonus Sketch Friday. And it is for a challenge at ACOT- the faith book challenge, to use the phrase "all things bring and beautiful." I called my layout all creatures great and small, but wrote the rest of the poem out, which starts with line, "all things bright and beautiful."

The journaling around the circles talks about the creatures we have visiting our yard. The pictures are of a red fox, a chipmunk and some squirrels. All taken from our sun room window. We have also seen a raccoon, bluebirds, cardinals and various other birds.

paper and elements are from cosmo cricket. alphas are crate paper.

10 Reasons I feel Lucky

Last month I found the Sketches {by tamara} blog and joined in on one of her challenges. Little did I know that it was for a guest designer spot. Then I get an email offering me a guest spot for this week. I was so happy, as it was a journaling challenge. The prompt was "10 reasons I feel lucky". Here is my layout- and I totally love how it turned out.

My list:

1. Wonderful husband. 2. Beautiful healthy children. 3. Financially secure. 4. Stay at home mom. 5. Generous MIL. 6. Wonderful parents. 7. Sister is my best friend. 8. Healthy 9. Great health insurance. 10. Live in a time and a place, where as a woman I can make my own decisions.

PP- Basic Grey, big brown alphas are thickers. Round scalloped journal spots are Jillibean Soup. Rub-ons on spots are Bo Bunny. White numbers are Making Memories as are the little alphas. The greenish numbers along the bottom are Tim Holtz grunge and the are inked with a variety of things - the first color didn't work. Big journal spot is Fancy Pants. Brads unknown.

Go Green Challenge- St Patty's Day

Lately it feels like all I do is my design team work, and with two guest spots coming up next month, I am trying to stay on top of things. But today I wanted to do a non-team page. A Cherry on Top and Candy Shoppe Designs both have monochromatic page challenges going on. I am not a monochromatic scrapper and wasn't planning on doing this challenge at all, but since everyone in my family- myself included- wore green yesterday, it seemed to speak to me. So I sat down today while the girls were at school and put this page together.

cardstock- bazzill and dcwv; pp- scenic route, crate paper, basic grey. ribbon is recollections. flowers are heidi swapp. buttons are unknown. alphas and clovers are cut with the spring slice cart.

naptime

This page as done using the monthly sketch for the scrap-room. Tammy at dixie pieces has a challenge to use glitter on a page. She posted a tutorial a little bit ago about how to glitterize (is that a word?) a flower. So I used stickles on the flower. I also only had one pick glitter brad, so I had to make the other one.

Anyway, I think this picture is very sweet. But the story behind it is pee in your pants funny. Literally- sort of. When she is really tired but won't nap Jon encourages to rest by using him as a bed. So she climbed up and fell asleep on Jon's back watching tv. I was at my craft table working and saw this sweet picture and grab my camera and snapped away. A few minutes after I took the picture I hear Jon say, "Come here now and get Bella." I knew immediately what happend. She pee'd all over him. It was SO funny. So when I look at the picture, I can't help but laugh.

The papers are Americana Craft. flowers are prima with stickles. The bling is recollections (no idea why the upper one looks like it is missing jewels- weird.) Border pieces are bazzill as is the cardstock.

el cachudo- candy shop designs and ACOT

This layout uses a page map sketch from ACOT. In case you didn't know ACOT has teemed up with Becky Fleck this month and all the layouts featured on her blog are from the DT at ACOT. I am also using it for Candy Shoppe Designs "go green contest". I used a piece of cardboard for the journaling spot and little accents.

Anyway, this is my husband on Saturday night. We went out to dinner and he took the restuaruants challenge and ordered "El Cachudo," the giant burrito. He did not finish it, but he put on a good show. LOL. I am not that happy with the page but . . . Anyway, here it is

All pps are bella blvd from this months scrap-room kit.

us- the scrappiest

This is one of my favorite photos of me and Jon. It was taken at the Cheat Fest in Preston County, WV. It was the same day he proposed, but much earlier in the day. LOL. So whenever I see it, I think about that day.

I used sketch 54 from the Scrappiest. Cathy over at Scrapbook Challenges has an altered circle challenge going on. So I cut the circle, balled it up and then up wrapped it, and balled it again. Then whilst it was still balled up I tore it a few times. Anyway, here it is

PPs are Three Bugs in a Rug. Eyelets are making memories, alphas are recollections. Cardstock- dcwv and bazzill.

half birthday party- imaginisce

This is for the sketch/challenge at the imaginisce blog. You had to use the sketch and their product. I actually received a bunch of imaginisce product when I won a rak during the scraptiffany blog hop. Anyway, I wasn't sure if it all had to be 100% imaginisce, so I erred on the side of caution and only used their stuff. Anyway, these pictures are from my daughters "half birthday part" at preschool. She has a summer birthday and they celebrate half birthdays so the summer kids get a party. A wonderful idea. She was so so so excited about it. We made the cupcakes together. Then daddy and I showed up (they even let me get Gracie from her class to come to the party) and we all sang happy birthday. It was all so cute.

take my picture- creative scrappers

This layout is from creative scrappers sketch 93. It was also to be used for
ScrapTiffany's button challenge (but I forgot to email her.) Lastly it is for the scrap rooms challenge for flower or things of nature on your page.

PP are Pink Paislee, cardstock - dcwv and bazzill. flowers and alphas are die cuts from the spring cartridge for the slice.
